The Author

ImageI grew up in Gelnhausen, a medieval city in the heart of Germany (and at the geographic center of the European Union!). My parents’ house faced Gelnhausen forest, an ideal place to play Robin Hood or cowboys and indians with my brothers, which I was inspired to do by the Wild West adventures I discovered in the books of Karl May, inherited from an aunt. I have loved books and adventure stories ever since I was young. I even tried to write my own stories - of course more than amateurish (but who can be a bookworm and not try it out?)

As a teenager, I discovered the novels of Jane Austen. “How can an entire book deal with nothing but tea-drinking women,” I thought while reading “Sense and Sensibility” for the first time. But after immediately reading it again, I found myself entranced by Austen’s witty dialogues, artfully developed and sometimes satirically painted characters, and highly romantic plots. Jane Austen has been my favourite writer ever since.

I used to engage extensively in sports, especially nine-pin bowling, in which I was member of the national team for some years and won several medals in national and international championship competitions. In parallel I did some Tae Kwon Do, winning a national championship in the early eighties. I took pleasure in entertaining my team mates with satirically exaggerated stories about our adventuresome trips to competitions in Eastern Europe.

After graduating from high school in Gelnhausen, I moved to Karlsruhe in 1985 where I studied computer engineering until 1990.

From 1991 on, I worked as a researcher and later on as a manager for a large international engineering company in the field of automation technology. At the same time, I completed my PhD in computer engineering.

This does not quite look like the straightforward career of a writer. But my job provided me with an inventory of useful experiences, methods, and - an idea about "good architecture": Whether it is software or the plot of a novel: Both need creativity, high diligence, and courageous redesign if you got on the wrong track. Furthermore, my job involved management tasks and it is amazing how much of the lessons learnt about motivation and leadership do apply when leading the characters of a novel.

Today, I live in Heidelberg with my husband and our two sons, and I work for an international management- and technology consulting company.

Meanwhile, I found I enjoyed surprising my friends and relatives with slide shows and entertaining stories for their birthday or wedding. I also wrote texts for services for our church community. Eventually, a few years ago, I began to explore the craft of writing more seriously and found my passion there. I have now completed working on the Cloud Keeper Saga and currently do brainstorming on a new novel.

Writing for me is a kind of wandering, in which I seek to discover what moves me deep inside and to paint it with fine strokes onto a colourful background, so that other people can enjoy similar discoveries.
